The Difference between Electroplating And Electrophoresis

After CNC machining steel parts, if you don't do surface treatment, It may be rust and look ugly after a long time, if you need to make a different colors, usually we suggest do powder coating or electroplating, today I will introduce in detail the electroplating and electrophoresis.

Electroplating: is the deposition of polymer resins on metal surfaces. The process of plating a thin layer of other metals or alloys on the surface of certain metals using the principle of electrolysis.

Electrophoresis:The process of having another metal ion deposited on a metal surface. The phenomenon of charged particles (ions) in solution moving in an electric field, the use of charged particles moving at different speeds in the electric field to achieve separation of the technology is called electrophoresis.

I. Function

Electroplating is the use of electrolysis to make the surface of metal or other material parts attached to a layer of metal film process, so as to play a role in preventing the oxidation of metal (such as rust), to improve wear resistance, electrical conductivity, reflective, corrosion resistance (copper sulfate, etc.) and enhance the role of aesthetics and so on. Electroplating has a metallic texture.

Electrophoresis is only a high imitation of plating, performance, color or a certain gap. Electrophoresis is difficult to make the metal texture of electroplating.

However: in terms of film uniformity, electrophoretic paint coating high and low potential film thickness uniformity, while the electroplating layer of high and low potential coating is not uniform. This is shown in the figure below:

Electrophoresis is also more advantageous in paint film coverage. Electrophoresis coating can completely cover hidden places, such as inner walls and recesses, while electroplating generally cannot penetrate deeply into hidden places.

Electrophoresis can only act on the conductive metal surface; electroplating in addition to the metal surface, can also be plated on top of the plastic after special treatment.

2.Cost

Electroplating is a layer of metal plating, while electrophoresis is coated with a layer of resin, electrophoresis compared to electroplating is more simple, easy to operate. Therefore, the difference in cost is far, electrophoresis is much cheaper than electroplating.

3.Environmental protection

Electrophoresis paint uses water as solvent, less waste and less pollution to the environment.

Electroplating wastewater contains chromium, cadmium, nickel, silver and other heavy metal ions and cyanide, etc., which is easy to produce pollution.
